More Thoughts on KDP Select
I have just read the ebook “Is $.99 the New Free?” by Steve Scott and I particularly liked that the author used his own case studies to demonstrate his advice.
After continually reading and writing about KDP Select, I think the number one piece of advice for authors seems to be:
Even if you plan to put your new ebook on other platforms, do Amazon’s KDP Select first for a 90-day period (uncheck the automatic renewal option) and then put your ebook on other platforms.
Why?
Because being able to choose five days during that 90-day period in which to offer your new book for free can provide an important opportunity to get your new book in front of readers. In addition, Amazon Prime members can borrow your book for free and you get paid for these borrows so this also encourages sampling of a new book.
After reading this book, I’m thinking of starting out with the five free days all at once for a new book I’m working on (screwball romantic comedy HOT POTATO) and then putting the book at the 99 cents price point.
As the author says himself, you have to experiment yourself to see what works best for you. And that advice to experiment is very important.
Do make sure that, before you put a new book on KDP Select, your Amazon Author Central profile is in good shape. (If you do not know about this free opportunity on Amazon, click here to see my ebook TOP TIPS FOR HOW TO MARKET YOUR BOOK ON AMAZON AND FACEBOOK.)

P.S. I have been adding chapters to my fiction project on Wattpad — THE MOTHER SIEGE: A DYSTOPIAN THRILLER — and my nonfiction project on Wattpad — TALES OF AN AMERICAN OCCUPYING GERMANY: A COLD WAR MEMOIR. Click on the project names to read all the chapters.
