About Al Zimbler
In memory of Albert Zimbler: November 20, 1924, to March 19, 2020
Chicago-born Al (Albert) Zimbler was a retired Certified Public Accountant who found his second calling after taking a sketch comedy class at Second City in Chicago; improv classes at Harper College (Palatine, IL), Piven Theater (Evanston, IL), New Trier Extension (Northfield, IL) and UCLA Extension (Los Angeles); and comedy writing with Judy Carter in Los Angeles.
He led a group of improvisers in the MEL (Men Enjoying Leisure) group in the Chicago area. He appeared on two daily programs on a cruise from Los Angeles to Australia on the Queen Elizabeth II, and he appeared on two daily programs on the Royal Caribbean Cruise ship Brilliance of the Seas.
This poem he wrote on April 9, 2006, was re-discovered after his death:
LOOKING INTO MY HEART
I’m happily with my love
Getting pleasure from above
What a wonderful start
Life’s a lark
I smile at all
With whom I suppose
The red sky is up high
And she darn well knows
Give me a break soon
Before I’m a loon
Come give me a smile
For that I’d walk a mile
Tho no distance too far
When I have my guitar
When I’m playing
Just playing to a star
